Senior Unity Programmer

Auckland, New Zealand
We're looking for an experienced Senior Unity Programmer who combines strong technical expertise with sound engineering judgment. You’ll be someone who builds systems that remain clean, scalable, and maintainable as they grow, while understanding the impact technical decisions have on the player experience.

You’ll work on our live mobile game, building and owning core gameplay systems that support ongoing content development. Working closely with designers, artists, backend engineers, and production teams, you'll help create robust features that are performant, flexible, and enjoyable for players.

What you will be doing:
  • Design, build, and own core gameplay systems in Unity and C# that are robust, scalable, and easy for the wider team to build upon.
  • Create flexible and data-driven systems that allow designers to iterate safely and efficiently.
  • Make thoughtful architecture decisions, balancing technical requirements, development effort, and player experience.
  • Write efficient, high-quality code with an understanding of mobile performance considerations, including memory usage, allocations, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Profile and investigate performance issues, focusing optimisation efforts where they have the greatest impact.
  • Work across a range of gameplay systems, such as UI, animation, economy, networking, persistence, and other core game technologies.
  • Build systems that support a live game environment, including safe updates, content releases, and maintaining player stability over time.
Requirements:
  • Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers to translate ideas into polished player experiences.
  • Share knowledge, provide technical guidance, and help raise engineering standards across the team.
  • 5+ years of professional game development experience, ideally within mobile gaming.
  • Strong Unity and C# experience, with a deep understanding of how Unity works under the hood.
  • Experience designing and developing complex gameplay systems in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and the ability to make practical engineering trade-offs.
  • Experience with performance optimisation, debugging, profiling, and writing efficient code for mobile platforms.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to balance technical excellence with delivering great player experiences.
Favorable skills to also have:
  • Experience developing free-to-play mobile games.
  • Understanding of live service games and post-launch development.
  • Experience with systems such as networking, economy, persistence, UI, animation, or content pipelines.
  • Experience with data-oriented technologies such as DOTS, ECS, Jobs, or Burst.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers or contributing to technical direction.
What we can do for you:
